Customer Commons is developing two cookie-based approaches toward giving each of us the upper hand when dealing with the websites of the world:

  • How to block third-party cookies gives specific directions in how to do that for five different browsers
  • First person cookie (coming) tells all sites you consent only to being tracked within the site by the site alone.

When either or both are commonly used, tracking-based advertising will be pushed off the market’s table, while advertising of the respectful sort, which the world has had for centuries, remains on the table.

These also push the market toward the ideals embodied in the GDPR and other respectful privacy regulations.
